What do I look forward to at TWINKLE 2015?

Hard choices need to be made. I need to think carefully in order to choose the best things at TWINKLE. The morning program, TWINKLE Shine, runs in the main auditorium of Tampere Talo. There, you just need to relax and wait to be inspired by our keynote speakers: Emilia Lahti, Soulaima Gourani, Denise Jacobs, Andreas Ekström and Poornima Vijayashanker, among others.

In the afternoon it gets trickier. The program celebrates diversity.

I’d start at TWINKLE World, where you can talk to ambassadors and build bridges with a lot of countries quickly. At the moment Latin America and Europe are the best represented, but more embassies from around the world are signing up every day.

TWINKLE is a chance to hear from people who know internationalisation inside out. If you are considering entering new markets, go listen about relevant services from Tekes, VTT and Finnpro. Special sessions will be devoted to entering the Chinese and US markets.

For companies who are looking to reflect on previous experiences, I’d recommend TWINKLE Share seminars where speakers will tell their own stories and experiences. There will be talks from Tommi Rasila, Tero Luoma and André Noël Chaker, among others.

By internationalisation, we at Twinkle mean more than Finnish companies selling abroad. We want to discuss the links betweeninnovation, diversity and growth. We want to bring together bright internationals who are already here, in Finland, and bright companies that are ready for experimenting.

One of the inspirations behind the Twinkle movement was a study ofhidden competences by CIMO and DEMOS Helsinki. They are claiming that international competences go beyond language skills, cultural knowledge and tolerance. Their extended understanding of international competences includes productivity, resilience and curiosity. To learn how to uncover these competences come to the TWINKLE Learn session with CIMO.

TWINKLE 2015 is a space of co-creation for companies, international talents and public sector actors. Star speakers from the seminar part of the program will join interactive sessions in the afternoon. If I had to choose, I’d go to the TWINKLE Dialogue session about co-creating global brands with Blanca Juti, Chief Brand Officer from Rovio.

Did you know that TWINKLE 2015 is powered by volunteers? Altogether there are about 100 people who work to make it happen. So in the evening, after getting an inspiration overdose, I’d head to Pakkahuone, grab a drink and chat with the people who made Twinkle possible.

Internationalization and entering to foreign markets is not easy task to do for the small companies. Especially when target markets are culturally, institutionally, economically and geographically very distant in from the home base of the company. In other words, when they are currently fastest growing economic areas, in Africa, Asia or Latin-America, in “Global South”.
